What is Glossary ?
A glossary, also known as a
vocabulary or clavis, is an alphabetical list of terms in a particular domain
of knowledge with the definitions for those terms. Traditionally, a glossary
appears at the end of a book and includes terms within that book that are
either newly introduced, uncommon, or specialized. While glossaries are most
commonly associated with non-fiction books, in some cases, fiction novels may
come with a glossary for unfamiliar terms.
In a general sense, a glossary
contains explanations of concepts relevant to a certain field of study or
action. In this sense, the term is related to the notion of ontology.
In this week, we have a assignment to
choose 5 words glossary entries related to academic words ( vocabulary ), we
must find some words that has not submitted by other learners. After we choose
the words then we must input to ICT4E 2019 – Independent Learning –
Collaborative Glossary, click add a new entry, in concept column we fill with
what word ( HEADWORD ) and what classes of word or the headword that we choose
,the headword should be any word from Academic Word List (AWL). In defenition
column we write the defenition of words in English and Indonesian defenition,
it can our definition (using our own words), or use a definition provided by a
website/book/etc, as long as the source is cited properly, we also write an
example ( 2 or more examples ) of sentence that consist the word. In keyword
column we write some words or synonyms related to the words, and don’t forget
to click the option “This entry should be automatically linked”, and last we
can submit and save our work to collaborative glossary list.
Below is an photo of my
assignment :
As learners, the assignment of this
collaborative glossary will increase our knowledge in finding new educational
words, and what the words mean, by looking up the meaning of the words directly
will add to the vocabulary that we use for variations of sentences, especially
in English.
